William H. Craighead<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The formation was attacked by between thirty and forty fighters including ME 109s and FW 190s. Aircraft 42-39954 feathered one engine and dropped back out of the formation. It was then hit by six or seven fighters and went down in flames.
