{"id":14638,"date":"2019-10-04T02:01:25","date_gmt":"2019-10-04T00:01:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/b17flyingfortress.de\/?post_type=b17database&#038;p=14638"},"modified":"2025-09-27T19:51:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T17:51:11","slug":"42-102662","status":"publish","type":"b17database","link":"https:\/\/b17flyingfortress.de\/en\/b17\/42-102662\/","title":{"rendered":"42-102662"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Mid-air-collision with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/b17flyingfortress.de\/en\/b17\/42-31359\/\">B-17 #42-31359<\/a>&nbsp;on 21 June 1944.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Following statement obtained by S-2 Section, 452nd Group at interrogation after return of mission:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 1040 hours two B-17s flying #4 and #6 position in the Low Squadron of the 452nd &#8211; B Group collied at 52\u00b052\u201c &#8211; 13\u00b010\u201c. Both planed went down at 52\u00b055\u201c &#8211; 12\u00b050\u201c. Just after bombs away, in making a right turn, the #4 plane (662) was caught in a prop wash and the #6 plane (359) whose tail assembly was already damaged by flak run into the first plane and chowed up its tail. One plane blew up and the other went down in a tight spiral. 6-7 chutes were seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Following statement made by 1Lt. Arthur F. Miller:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Albout twelve minutes after bombs away at approximately 52\u00b058\u201cN &#8211; 13\u00b010\u201cE, B-17G 42-102662 collied with B-17G 42-31359 in making a right turn. Part of tail assembly from aircraft 662 was broken off and plane went down in a tight spiral. It was observed falling to approximately 5000 feet at which point it was lost sight of.
