The formation was attacked by enemy fighters at 23,000 feet shortly after leaving the target area at 1110 hours and between the target (52\u00b017\u2019 – 11\u00b038\u2019) and Rally Point (52\u00b010\u2019 – 11\u00b005\u2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seven of the twelve aircraft in this formation were lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of the seven aircraft lost, three have been definitely identified and circumstances so stated in their particular Missing Air Crew Report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aircraft 277 is believed to be one of the four unidentified aircraft that was seen to go down in flames as a result of fighter attack. Of the four unidentified aircraft lost, five to six chutes were seen. Whether or not aircraft 277 accounted for any of these, could not be determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
