Charles L. Coons from MACR<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the mission to Leipzig, Germany, on 29 June 1944, I was the pilot of A\/C <a href=\"https:\/\/b17flyingfortress.de\/en\/b17\/42-97546-idaliza\/\">#42-97546<\/a> which was flying in #2 position, lead squadron, low group of the 41st &#8220;B&#8221; Combat wing. The missing A\/C, #42-38951, was flying in #5 position, low squadron, lead group of the same combat wing. Just before bombs away, the missing A\/C received a direct hit from A\/A gunfire just about the wais windows. It broke in two and immediately went straight down. I saw no chutes. The missing A\/C blew up after it reached low altitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mystery<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>T\/Sgt. Terence Thomas Camp (38248139) is mentioned in the MACR\/KU report and was captured at the same place\/day. But his unit is not known.
