Eyewitness Statements to the loss of B-17G 42-38083 \/ Man ‘O War II – Horsepower Ltd<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We were flying at approximately 27500 feet altitude, about five (5) minutes after bombs away when we were attacked by about 40 to 50 enemy fighters. Aircraft 42-38083 was hit in the trailing edge of the right wing and the eppenage. Fragments came off of the wing and the tail and as they came off the aircraft turned over on its side. There was fire in the right wing. At this point I lost sight of subject aircraft. No parachutes were seen to come from this ship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fragments came off of the wing and the tail and as they came off the aircraft turned over on its side. It then fell back behind the formation. About then enemy fighters kept making attacks on subject aircraft. The ship then peeled off to the left, and remained behind the formation for approximately 5 minutes during which time some of the crew could have bailed out, however, I saw no one bail out or parachutes open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
