Sgt. F. X. Murphy [Frances X. Murphy, Tail Gunner] of Lt. Ewing\u2019s [Willie D. Ewing, B-17 43-37992] crew reports that at 0927 he saw a B-17 spinning and turning going into the clouds. He thought he saw 2 chutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lt. Mullin\u2019s [Dan A. Mullen, ship 43-37952]crew saw a B-17 which they believed to be 136 drop behind the formation. A wing broke off and then the plane went into a spin. No chutes were seen this crew was a good distance away so they are not positive that there were no chutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
