Camp"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I saw the name Terence Thomas Camp for the first time during the research for the crash site of the <a href=\"https:\/\/b17flyingfortress.de\/en\/b17\/42-38051-my-yorkshire-dream\/\">B-17 #42-38051 &#8216;My Yorkshire Dream&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"my-3\"><small>Werbung\/Advertisement<\/small><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8860322341892117\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"7270855245\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the MACR 6739 for the B-17 #42-38051 only the corresponding crew was listed. In KU 2388, which belongs to the MACR 6739, T\/Sgt. Terence Thomas Camp was named. He was captured, like the B-17 #42-38051 and its crew, on 29 June 1944 around 09:30 o&#8217;clock. The B-17 #42-38051 crashed between Zettweil and P\u00f6hla, 5 km west of Gro\u00dfr\u00f6de and 10 km west of Altenburg\/Thuringia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, I was surprised that T\/Sgt. In which B-17 did he fly and what happened to the B-17 and the other crew members?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Searching sources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First I searched the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.303rdbg.com\/missionreports\/194.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"mission list of the 303rd Bomb Group on this 29 June 1944 (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">mission list of the 303rd Bomb Group on this 29 June 1944<\/a>, perhaps his name appears there and belongs only to another B-17. But no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After that I searched the <a href=\"https:\/\/aad.archives.gov\/aad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"US National Archive (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">US National Archive<\/a> and entered his serial number. I also found it and in this <a href=\"https:\/\/aad.archives.gov\/aad\/record-detail.jsp?dt=466&amp;mtch=1&amp;cat=all&amp;tf=F&amp;q=38248139&amp;bc=&amp;rpp=10&amp;pg=1&amp;rid=50506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"personal file (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">personal file<\/a> the 457th Bomb Group is listed as his unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m one step ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, I entered his name and 457th Bomg Group in a search engine and quickly found him. Terence T. Camp appears in the <a href=\"http:\/\/457thbombgroup.org\/Roster\/Cnames.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"personnel list of the 457th Bomb Group (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">personnel list of the 457th Bomb Group<\/a>, so the 457th BG can be confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But in which B-17 did he fly on 29 June 1944 ?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another search result leads me to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.457thbombgroupassoc.org\/vmail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"V-MAIL MESSAGE BOARD SYSTEM (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">V-MAIL MESSAGE BOARD SYSTEM<\/a><\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.457thbombgroupassoc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"457th Bomb Group Association (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">457th Bomb Group Association<\/a>. There the grandson of Terence T. Camp asks exactly the same question, which I ask myself: What B-17 was he in and what happened to the rest of his crew?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately his grandson gave the name of the pilot: Norman Breit, and I felt that I was very close to the finish line. Terence T. Camp&#8217;s B-17 found<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I tried to find the mission report for each day. The mission report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.457thbombgroupassoc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"457th Bomb Group Association (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">457th Bomb Group Association<\/a> was unfortunately not helpful in this case, because it does not list any B-17s which flew the mission. But there was another 457th Bomb Group Association: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.457thbombgroup.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"http:\/\/www.457thbombgroup.org\/ (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">http:\/\/www.457thbombgroup.org\/<\/a> and this website listed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.457thbombgroup.org\/Narratives\/MA79.HTML\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"mission report (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">mission report<\/a> in more detail. I searched this site for the name of the pilot: Norman Breit and found a short description at the top of the page, which said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The aircraft piloted by Lieutenant Norman Breit encountered considerable flak. Assuming that the plane would crash, three of the crew bailed out.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, in addition to Terence T. Camp, two others jumped out. A little further down the used B-17s were listed and the B-17 of Norman Breit was &#8220;A\/C 167&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ok, I find out the complete serial number with the knowledge that 167 is the last 3 numbers of the serial number, I looked in my database and used the <a href=\"https:\/\/b17flyingfortress.de\/en\/b17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">advanced search<\/a>. I set this to 750th Bomb Squadron and then, on the third page the <a href=\"https:\/\/b17flyingfortress.de\/en\/b17\/44-6167\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"B-17 #44-6167 (\u00f6ffnet in neuem Tab)\">B-17 #44-6167<\/a> is listed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this I have now found the B-17 and how it came about that T\/Sgt. Terence T. Camp jumped off. It was only a coincidence that he was captured near the crash site of B-17 #42-38051.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who were the other two crem members?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission list where I could find out the crew of 44-6167. Also has the original list and in it you can find the names and functions of the crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And besides T\/Sgt. Terence T. Camp, who flew as technician and upper turret gunner, Charles J. Hrubos &#8211; gunner of the chin turret and Lt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I think I have solved the mystery. It only took two hours for me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"T\/Sgt.
