My father was on the first War Eagle. I have a list of all his missions 50 of them from England to North Africa. It includes a pics of his crew and others included when the plane crashed in North Africa. He also told some interesting stories as the waist gunner and radio operator. I was a radio operator in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

I am honored and grateful as American citizen, for the service of your families. I am diving deep into history of the 8th Air Force. I was curious if anyone of the family members know who he history of how or why War Eagle was named. I assume Eagle represents our national bird and also the war it was flying in. I was curious as there’s also a General Patton picture with War Eagle on a jeep he was riding in.
Just curious. Would enjoy a picture of the B-17 War Eagle.
