B-17 41-24380 / Superman Details

Named for obvious reasons, the oldest ship in the oldest Flying Fortress group in North Africa is the distiniction held by “Superman”, whose pilot is 1st Lt. John A. Gallup, Upper Darby, Pa. The plane has had 17 engine changes, and has collected over 300 flak and bullet holes. Although its crew has had many narrow squeaks, there has never been a fatality. Crew members have collected six purple hearts.
