My dad John A Thomson 2ndLt., Navigator flew Lil Joe October 1942 after their plane Phyllis 41-24397 was “shot down” three times on one mission to Maulte France October 2, 1942. Dad navigated Lil Joe from England to North Africa where he had eventually logged 50 completed combat missions. He left Lil Joe in July 1942 with orders to get home as fast as he could. We have Das log books describing such things as being lowered into the bombay to put a fuse cap back on the nose of a stuck 2000 lb bomb that was dislodged due to concussions from flak. Further stories like pushing their life rafts out over a downed b17 in the med, etc.
