My late father in law flew on the first B-17 to go over 100 missions. Hi name was Lt. Charles B. Durling, from Chicago. I have been unsuccessful in locating any information about him. If someon could help me out it would be wonderful. He flew The Berlin Sleeper. Thank you all so much.

My dad (Roy) was a side gunner on the original Berlin Sleeper. He was on the first flight crew when the plane was sent from the US to England. From England they flew the plane to a base in North African desert. Dad would refer to Tunis and Algiers. They bombed Germany and possibly Italy from that location. Dad was the barber when he wasn’t flying on missions.

Hi Rick, looks like your dad and mine were on the same missions. I have a picture to show you of the crew standing by their plane. Does Roy’s last name start with an H? Email me and I’ll be happy to email you the picture.

Hey Ms Beckman, that would be awesome. I don’t know how to attach to this e mail, but I have 2 pics of my dad in Africa at their air base that were displayed in the 97th Bomber Group Info book. One of the pics is of my dad with some info. Dad stayed in touch with a few of the crew until he passed at 96 years old in 2014. Our last name is Fichera. Take care.
