good friend of mine was waist gunner on 1). axis ass ache and 2) dirty gerty(sp). did 50 missions n. Africa and Foggia Italy. He has passed and I have a copy of his soldiers diary of all 50 missions. on Oct 14 1943, the date this plane was out of service, he went on a mission that day but no mention of loosing this plane but he was likely already in his last plane.
