At 1130, 12500 feet, just before the I.P. A/C No. 42-29778 from this Group, received a head on attack from an FW 190 and No. 3 engine caught fire. A/C left formation under control, and later all four engines began to burn. A/C was seen to hit ground. As many as 9 chutes were reported.
