Joe Fluty was a fighter pilot with 55th Fighter Group, P-38 Lightnings. The pilot for the crew mentioned was Robert C. Smith of the 549th squadron/385th BG out of Great Ashfield. The 385th website does not show any of the aviators mentioned having flown that day, and likely because it was a scrubbed mission. Also Pregnant Portia 42-5892 and Portia’s Revenge 42-30263 were separate B-17 bombers attached to the 385th, they were not “AKA.”
