Eyewitness Statements

When I saw plane #42-30310 it was on fire from the engine to the rear of the plane. One parachute came out of navigators hatch, then the plane began losing altitude. That was the last I saw of plane #42-30310.

Sgt. Wilbur F. Brown
Engineer, B-17 #42-30465

Plane #42-30310 caught fire and the flames were all the way to the stabilizer. It started to lag behind then I saw it start to go on its back. I saw one chute come out of the front hatch. Thats all I saw, because we were then attacked by fighters.

Sgt. Vincent J. Russo
Waist Gunner, B-17 #42-30465

I saw #3 engine on plane #42-30310 burst into big flames. That was all I saw of it as fighters were coming in.

Sgt. Peter A. Ravinsky
Radio Operator, B-17 #42-30465
