Delivered Long Beach 23/2/43; Patterson 17/4/43; Assigned 509BS/351BG [RQ-P] Polebrook 23/4/43; Missing in Action 19m Leverkusen 1/12/43 with Capt Eugene Harris, Co-pilot: Jim O’Donoghue, Navigator: Tom Briscoe, Bombardier: John McLain, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Chas Tigue, Waist gunner: Harry Mellott,Tail gunner: Mitch Miles (7 Killed in Action), Radio Operator: Orville Click, Ball turret gunner: Ray Smith, Waist gunner: Paul Lucyk (3 Returned to Duty); lost two engines through mechanical problems, but safely ditched Channel, however only three survived when rescue came nearly three days later.
