Delivered Denver 21/11/43; Kearney 5/12/43; Romulus 18/12/44; Presque Is 20/12/43; Assigned: 551BS/385BG [HR-Q] Gt Ashfield 30/12/43; forced due return to base when #1 cut out 24/5/44 Pilot: Roland Pocello, Co-Pilot: R.E. Peterson, Navigator: A.P. Minkus, Bombardier: L.R. Ayers, Engineer / Top Turret Gunner: J.O. Osborne, Radio Operator: F.W. Allez, Ball Turret Gunner: D.B. Solomon, Waist Gunner: E.E. Smith, Waist Gunner: R.M. Valvaro, Tail Gunner: R.A. Rainey (10RTD); six crew baled Hengrave, Suffolk, before pilot attempted to land at Fornham All Saints, Suffolk, but hit hay stack and a tree, followed by a bomb explosion; five civilians were injured in the blast, which included two fireman and an ARP man; Salvaged. n/battle damage 24/5/44.

My grandfather was one of the fire man in attendance who was injured he lost a leg and I was told that another fire man who was near him died of head injuries from the bomb blast
