Your information on the Fancy Nancy IV that it was salvaged in 1944 is incorrect. My father SSG Billie M. Ford was the belly gunner on that bomber. Captain Lewis Howard was the pilot. My father flew 28 missions between 21 January to 19 April 1945, mostly in that bomber. When he arrived in the 401st Bomb Group in December 1944, he replaced the belly gunner who was killed and a new ball turret was added to the aircraft. It is possible that the crash you refer to in 1944 resulted from the flak damage that killed the previous belly gunner. Nonetheless, the Fancy Nancy IV survived the war to have hundreds of missions.

Thank you! I have updated the information and removed “salvaged”.

I want to see if I can add some pictures to the Fancy Nancy IV website. I have a picture of the last crew of the Fancy Nancy IV from January 1945 along with a picture of my father SSG Billie M. Ford, the belly gunner.
