My granddad, Col. George Shackley, piloted Rotherhithe’s Revenge. It couldn’t have been his first Fort, but I think it may have been his last before the end of the compaign. He ended up as Lt Col, and ExO of the 533rd Sq, 381st BG come the finish. Went on to serve in Korea and Vietnam. Buried in Arlington alongside his estranged wife, 2004.

My Dad, Mel Hecker, completed his 25th Mission in Rotherhite’s Revenge in March 1944 after leading the 381st to the Berlin area … he then went on to the 445th BG as an Operations Officer prior to beginning the Command and General Staff School in KS in August, 1944.

I was born in Rotherhithe 1938, bombed every night from two years old and evacuated, we loved that B17 and the crew, we will never forget the men like your Dad who risked there lives for us
