My Grandfather Merton Coyne was on the mission with Bob Hain when 42-3179 was battle damaged in Bolzano IT, and had to land in Corsica. Looking for more information on this crew.

Your grandfather Merton Coyne played on the 1940 state football champions in Hastings, Nebraska. His team is being inducted into our school hall of fame this winter (Feb 2024). I am attempting to contact interested family members. Greg Mays (gmays@hhstigers.com)

My husband’s uncle was David Wayne Carson (Pennsylvania), pilot. Crashed into stone wall trying to land damaged plane in bad weather in a farmer’s field in Sicily. Died 19 Nov 1943. Awarded Purple Heart posthumously.
