My Uncle Staff Sergeant John Thomas Barto served on the Rangly Lil as a tail gunner. 97th Bomber Group, 340th Bomb Squadron. Was shot down over Palermo Bay on the Toulon Mission on November 22, 1943. He came home on the Algonquin in Ward C-18 after his arm had been strafed and badly damaged. His buddy’s last name was Barkway. Would love to know more about him and Rangly Lil.
