My father is George McMullin, the tail gunner on this aircraft. He spent 13 months at Stalag 17 after parachuting out over Germany. He was very proud to serve until the day he passed, April 2, 2006. Was there any nose art for this plane? I’ve been trying to find it if there was. My son took me on a flight in a B-17 a couple years ago… my heart all but exploded – it was Fantastic!! Was the plane ever found? Thank you for your site! Pam

Hi Pamela, I do research on crashed airplanes during WW2 in my home county. Your dad crashed closed to where I live.

Respectfully, Edward Coley, known in our Family as ‘Brother Coley’, was a waist gunner on the last flight. My maternal Grandfather and Brother Colely’s Mother were siblings. He also ended up in a stalag in Austria. I knew him in my youth. Late in his life, he visited the Netherlands to call on the graves of his Dodie colleagues, who all rest at Margraten. He particularly wanted to honor the grave of the other waist gunner, who perished in the attack. Brother said he could have just as easily been manning the other side waist gun of the plane, and been killed as was Staff Sargeant Thomas McDonald.
Regards to you and your Family.

I have a photo of this bomber and some of the crew members found it over 15 years ago at a antique store. If you want it, I will send it to you belongs more with you than with me.

Respectfully, were you able to acquire the Dodie B-17 photos? Is it too much of an imposition to purchase copies? I thank you for any consideration you have on offer. Thank you.

Do I understand the German entry to mean: “From this plane I got the rear tail sight … MG rear stand … B 17 42-37783” and “Yes, that’s 100 percent true… I know the crash site….” Thank you. May I please ask you for a photo? Vielen Dank. Darf ich Sie bitte um ein Foto bitten? Cordially, Gary Goodenow
