I worked with the daughter of Thomas Forbes who was on B-17 42-38100 when it was shot down. Thomas was able to avoid capture and made it back to friendly territory. From what records I have found, the plane crashed near St. Jakob im Rosental in Austria. I am wondering if anyone is aware if there is a memorial for this crash site and the specifics of the crash site.

Hi, Duane. Sašo Miklič from Slovenia here. I was just looking for more information about this bomber as I found the memorial yesterday in the mountains. This B-17 crashed on Sedlo Suha (Suha saddle, 1439 m) between “Mala Golica” mountain (1646 m) and “Ptičji vrh” peak (1551 m) on the border with Austria. A gravel road leads to the site from Jesenice town so it can be reached by car or on foot. Otherwise this site is close to a very popular tourist spot in Slovenia as there are famous daffodil fields nearby. Location on Google Maps is: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZaRZBioyq5hvLJei6 Here is an article in Slovene. It says that parts of the plane are in the museum in Jesenice (Kosova graščina- Kos Manor) and that Thomas W. Forbes was present when the memorial was unveiled in 2002. https://www.gorenjskiglas.si/zgodbe/obletnica-strmoglavljenja-bombnika-60725/ And I’ve added two photos of the memorial here: https://we.tl/t-vzM5PpELSD
