Delivered Long Beach 29/10/43; Assigned 418BS/100BG [LD-D] Thorpe Abbotts 16/12/43; Missing in Action Berlin 6/3/44 with Sam Barrick, Co-pilot: Ira Munn, Navigator: Jim Guerrini, Bombardier: Jim Brady, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Walfred Johnson, Radio Operator: Clifton Barton, Ball turret gunner: Ed Marlin, Waist gunner: Fred Thorpe, Waist gunner: Bill Dixon,Tail gunner: Hugh Fantone (10INT-ret UK 9/44); enemy aircraft KO’d two engines, one afire and prop eventually fell off after unable to be feathered, force landed Bulltofta, Sweden, escorted in by two Swedish AF fighters; Missing Air Crew Report 3031.
