My father in law, was copilot of this plane on its first fifteen missions . His name was Fred McIntyre from Reno Nevada. Fred was a lieut. during this mission. The pilot of the plane was Capt. Charles D Clark of McCallen Texas. I have the original newspaper clipping that has quotes from both pilots.
“Yanks Slug Way Thru Swarm of Nazi Fighters.” McIntrye was quoted in the article, “the spits cut out a whole mass of Focke-Wulfs, and the fighters didnt seem to be able to get set today .Mcintyre was on the first bombing mission over Europe ever carried out by the by the American army airforce.. McIntyre was promoted to captain after flying fifteen missions with the Bloody Tangier How.He piloted the Barrel House Bessie of
from Basin Street for his remaining 10 missions. He was the first pilot to come back to the states after completing 25 missions
, most without escorts, during which he nor any member of his crew were were wounded.

Jeff – My mother compiled a binder of her father’s war stories. He flew under 366/305/24624 (Navigator John J. Ward (“Jack”) see: http://www.americanairmuseum.com/aircraft/538) One of his first-hand accounts tells of “the Bloody Tangier Show” in October ’42, where his B-17 lost two engines after takeoff and he plotted a ‘dead reckoning’ course in thick fog to get them back to Nova Scotia. They crash landed just off shore not far from Halifax. Happy to pass along the full story. – Pat

Hello, I’m French.
I live close to Nantes and I have more informations about this B-17 called Bloody Tangier Show :
The plane was followed by two Fw 190 and the B-17 shot down one of this German plane and he crashed in the Grand-Lieu’s lake. The second enemy plane caused severe damage on the Flying Fortress, but before crashing, the Bloody Tangier Show also shot down the last Fw 190 and he crashed in a field. An association discovered elements of the B-17 and of the Fw 190 in a field and they want to take out of the water the Fw 190 because he still under 5 meters of mud, that mean the German plane still intact with his pilot.
