T/Sgt James F. Jones, 20343323, Baltimore, MD, the tail gunner, was completely ejected from his station when the plane scraped a hilltop approaching South Molton. He landed in soft soil and was only slightly injured. The plane continued for three miles before crashing. Weather was a factor and it had suffered battle damage on a raid to La Palice, France. He also survived a mid-air collision in 41-2603 with another B-17E near Gowen Field, Idaho, on January 15, 1943. Sources: AAMIB and AAIR
