Aircraft 42-97847 was hit in the number four engine by flak while over the target, shortly after bombs away. The aircraft began to lose speed and altitude and 10 chutes were seen to leave the ship. All chutes were seen to open and clear the ship safely. The ship crashed to the earth at 50°27’N – 09°37’E at 1538 hours, exploding on impact.
