My father in 486th/832nd flew as Flight Engineer/Top Turret Gunner in this B-17.

My stepfather also flew in the plane as top gunner with as best as I can tell Colonel Harry Paynter as pilot. But stepfather seemed to have been in different planes, thinking some needing mechanical work and this was not the plane he was shot down in.

My Dad, Charles Yeager, was the copilot of the American Beauty during the first half of 2045. He was based in Sudbury near London.

Hello from East Texas. My dad lived at Station 174 outside Sudbury from March 1944 until October same. He was Flight Engineer/Top Turret Gunner on JC Coats Crew, 832nd Squadron.He was on 486th first mission in May 1944. He finished off his time in Europe aboard American Beauty. #008 is one reason I ever got born. CO Glendon Overing asked Coats Crew to fly a few extra missions to show green crews how to stay alive because they were getting knocked down in their first five raids.
