Lt. George Beaudry graduated
(pilot’s wings and officer’s commission) with my uncle Lt. Lawrence B. Assell from Marfa Army Airfield, Texas on November 3, 1943 and escorted my uncle’s
remains home to Los Angeles when he was killed in the crash of a B-17G on Guadalupe Peak, Texas on 12/23/1943 while both were in 4-engine school at Roswell Army Airfield in New Mexico. George is buried at the American Cemetery at St Avold, France; my uncle is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles.

My father, Donald Demmert, was the Co-Pilot on this plane when it was shot down. His last name is spelled wrong in the crew list. He was captured by the Germans and was a POW in Stalag Luft 1 until the end of the war. He used to say that “he was one of the lucky ones”. Thanks for the amazing database!
