B-17 43-38140 Details
Captain Homer E. Thomas saw aircraft 140 receive a flak hit at the target. One engine went out at that time. At the R.P. another engine went out. Captain Thomas saw the aircraft about 30 miles after the R.P. He heard the aircraft call for fighter escort but none seemed available. It is believed that the plane could get back to friendly territory provided it wasn’t jumped by enemy fighters which were out in strength that day.
