Eyewitness Statements and Remarks

Aircraft 232 was last seen by crew members of aircraft 229 at 1152 hours, 26000 feet, shortly after bombs away. Although under control. Aircraft 232 had No. 3 engine feathers and was last seen lagging behind and to the right of the group formation, SSW [South-Souh-West].

Due to gas shortages, eleven aircraft from this group landed at emergency fields in France and Belgium, and it was first believed that aircraft 232 was among these. All returning crews (from France and Belgium) were interrogated for information relative to aircraft 232, but no further information could be obtained.
