The B-17, Lorrie Mae is named after my mother Lorraine Mae Hine, on the engine cowling is a JR for junior. LORRAINE is 95 years old and in very good health and lives in Southern California. Sadly my father, Frank Hine, the artist who did naming and was on the ground crew of Lorrie May passed away a few years ago. If you have anymore information about my father or the Lorrie Mae please contact me.

Patrick I was so excited to see your email. I’ve always wondered who piloted the LM. By the way my mom Lorraine just celebrated her 99th birthday on December 3rd and is still doing very good, she lives with my brother in Camarillo, CA.
If you have anymore info please don’t hesitate to sent it to me.
Thanks again,
Jim Hine

Jim, Patrick’s father Hank is in the upper row, 3rd from left, followed by pilot Lee Pugsley and navigator Harold Lanier who was my father. Both Lee and my father passed away long ago and we’re proud to have served on the Lorrie Mae. I believe it was one of less than fifty B17’s to have survived 100 missions. Glad to hear the original Lorrie Mae is also going on 100!

Lorrie Mae –Relations
Jim Hine, Patrick Henry & Gary Lanier
Hi Guys,
My name is Len Pugsley, A few months ago I watched the Apple series Masters of the Air and got to wondering if there would be anything about the Lorrie Mae online. Sure enough there was, with your names and some of the history. The photo on line is the same one hanging in our living room, I look at every day and wonder how all the men’s lives turned out. Jim, through guessing I would bet your dad might be Frank, the Master Sargent on the left side. I had always wondered where the name came from, very cool she was your mother.
Patrick and Gary, years ago after my dad died, your moms and dads came to my mother’s house in East Wenatchee WA and we all went to a B17 celebration over on the WA coast that Boeing put on, I think for the airplanes 50th anniversary. Patrick, I visited your house in Georgia in August 1969 when I was on a motorcycle trip. It was raining and no one was home. I think we were along the edge of Hurricane Camille and we stayed wet most of a week. We had planned to go to Florida but the South was all flooded out, so we headed North.
My wife Lise and I live in the home my father was raised in and we just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in September. We have both been happily retired 5 years each and have a daughter Haley who is also happily married, works out of Seattle and travels most of the better parts of the world for her scientific work.
I hope you receive this reply and would like to get to know you all. Sorry it took me so long to figure this out.
Best Regards,
Len Pugsley
