Aircraft 44-6307, Lt. Shields, pilot, left formation at RP with one engine out and another on the way at 1155 hours, 51°10’N-11°50’E at 27000 feet. At 1321 hours, the air leader got a message saying that Lt. Shields thought he was over the Rhine and could make it to friendly territory. Air Leader judges that aircraft 44-6307 was at 50°25’N-08°41’E at 16000 feet at this time.
