Following statement obtained by S-2 Section, 452nd Bomb Group (H), at interrogation after return of mission:

Simmons #527 reports – #601 flying off left wing of this A/C dropped dow at 1045 hours (approximately 20 minutes after bombs away). Crew thought 601 wanted to get out of contrails and to join lead Squadron. No apparent trouble and no engines feathered. No further information available.
