Hello, I believe I have a pic of the nose art for the serial number matching this plane, it’s called the Blitz Baby, Starcers name can be seen at the bottom, my grandpa was in the 91st but with the 322 not the 401st, and was there in late 45, same time as this plane was there, if you’d like the pic let me know. Yep, 44-6884 was christened “Blitz Baby”, but it was one of the named 91st Aircraft that slipped through Ray Bowden’s 1st edition of “Plane Names & Fancy Noses”, and was only listed a possible name requiring further research in the 91st BG master list in the appendices. The American Air Museum archive at Duxford now has a picture of Blitz Baby’s nose art in much a much resolution than was previously available, clearly showing the Douglas production block and serial number.
