B-17F 41-24579 “Thumper” was assigned 360BS/303BG [PU-F] 17-Feb-42 Gowen Field, Idaho; Bangor 14-Oct-42; Molesworth 16-Oct-42; Aircraft damaged by AA fire and enemy fighters on mission to Lorient, France on 23-Jan-43. 11 man crew. Belly-landed at Lulsgate Bottom, Bristol, UK. Aircraft was too damaged to repair and was salvaged. 6RTD 4WIA 1KOM. No MACR issued.

Damaged by anti-aircraft-fire and enemy fighters on mission to Lorient, France on 23/01/1943. Crash landing in UK. Later salvaged.

My father, Louis Bruno Sinopoli flew in Thumper. He was a bombardier. Considering the exposure of the bombardier I count myself blessed he made it through WW-II to join his wife and go on to live a full and productive life.

Uncle Hank, Emilio Yannie, was the injured veteran that bailed out and suffered serious injury. He returned to the states got married and was blessed with two daughters.
He had a very successful career as a CPA in the Elmira NY area. Hank’s sister served in WW2 as a Navy Wave and two brothers served in the Army. Vincent a Pearl Harbor survivor, Victor served with General Patton as a tank commander.
