Lassie Come Home 337715 was the plane my Dad, John Davis, flew most of his 35 combat missions in. He and his crew loved this aircraft. On Jan 01, 1945, #1 & #2 engines were shot out over Germany. They were able to limp back to Thurleigh, but with the left side of the plane so heavy due to the two feathered engines, the left wing was too low at landing. The left wing tip hit the runway, the plane ground looped and was ultimately destroyed and salvaged. All crew members walked out of the aircraft. This was my Dad’s last mission-he brought all of his crew members home from every mission.
