B-17 42-3422 / Winnie The Pooh Details
A/C 42-3422 received a direct hit from enemy anti-aircraft fire on the Number 1 engine, blowing it off it’s mounting and setting the left wing afire. The bomb bay was also ripped apart. The ship pulled out to left of formation appearently under control, lost 200 feet of altitude, then went into a spind and spun into ground. The foregoing event took place directly over the target.

Harry Clew was my boss in1960. I met Harry again after tracking him down in 2016 He lived in Dana Point Ca Nice man, always had a little smile on his face. I imagine I would also if I had gone through what Harry had. I did at least get to thank him for helping to save our little Island. Thank you again Harry.

LT Robert “Bob” Clark was my dad. He passed away in 2001. I still have a lot of his memorabilia, a lot of it was from his time as a POW.

SGT Glen Turnbough was my dad. He died in 2007. He said he volunteered to do this flight as they needed a BT Gunner , his first flight. Spent 14 months as POW.

Alfred Braca was my grandfather. He was the navigator. Unfortunately he died in 2011. I have an old photo of the crew in front of the bomber – is there a link i can use to upload the scanned photo and share it?
