Dean Smith was my mother’s brother. my uncle. from Walter’s Oklahoma. I still have the letters he wrote to his sister, Ida Smith when he was stationed overseas and in training. he was the ball turrent gunner. my grandmother said that when they sent his remains back that those were not her son. I have read the article from the pilot stating he never left the plane as he was helping Dan. obviously never meet him but have pictures of him as a young boy.
