B-17F 42-29693 piloted by 1st Lt. Malcom B. Mackinnon, on the 11 June 1943 was hit by enemy fighters in an attack 25 miles out in the North Sea on the route back from the target. The aircraft was seen to spin down out of control, explode on hitting the water and sink immediately at 54°10″N – 05°40″E. Two to four chute were reported as seen leaving the ship.
