My grandfather flew this plane” Farmers Daughter” on a combat mission, although the records have his last name misspelled with a “b” instead of a “d”. His name is 1st Lt Floyd Dodson 8th 401st BG 614 Sq and he was one very Lucky Devil. In his honor and out of respect, do you know how I can get the record of the spelling of his name corrected?

Min great grandfathers cousin, Carl Peter Djernes, was a Pilot on this plane. He flew 37 missions from 11/16/1944 to 03/24/1945.

Maybe, the plane was called “The Farmers Daughter”, because of the pilot, Carl P. Djernes’ wife Margret F. Djernes. Her maiden name was “Farmer”. – So back in Omaha, Nebraska, he was married to the Farmers daughter.

I had the privilege of knowing Carl Djernes. He married my grandmother after both of their first spouses had passed away. He was the pilot of this plane for most of his 37 missions The famous photo of the bomber jacket with the Farmer’s Daughter pin-up artwork on it is Carl in the picture as you can see the state of Nebraska on the jacket as well. He was proud of that photo. Carl was a U.S. postal carrier in Omaha Nebraska after the war and he said that someone broke into his truck and stole that jacket. He was still bitter about it all those years later. The stories that I remember from him is he said that on a lot of his missions the flack that the Germans were firing was so thick you could almost walk on it. He also wouldn’t eat Brussels sprouts because they dumped the waste from the latrine into the Brussels sprout fields on the base he was stationed at. Great guy absolutely loved Carl.
