The after mission report contains the following:
No flak observed enroute target. From approximately 1118 hours until 1122 hours encountered moderate to heavy, accurate, tracking flak over Berlin at 26,500 feet altitude. Flak bursts black. No rockets observed.
Aircraft 547-F, pilot Daley, lagging , reported to leader at 1140 hours that one engine was out, another losing gasoline.
And the Missing Air Crew Report Number 12283 contains the remarks:
Intense, accurate tracking flak from 4 minutes before bombs away, lasting 8 minutes. No enemy aircraft encountered by this group. When formation was 2/3 of way across the English Channel, Lt. Daley was heard to say he thought he could reach English Coast. Was not heard from since.
2Lt. Jesse L. Patten picked up the messages over VHF.

My uncle was RO T/SGT Pofirio J. Marquez he had flown 39 missions was furloughed home and received a Purple Heart for wounds received also the Air medal and distinguished flying cross then returned to England to complete 39 more missions but on his 80th mission and last before getting another furlough met his fate along with his crew did not return home that day Feb. 3,1945 🇺🇸
