Delivered Cheyenne 17/3/44; Kearney 5/4/44; Grenier 14/4/44; slated 303BG, Assigned 602BS/398BG [K8-V] Nuthampstead 3/5/44; (41m) Missing in Action Brux 12/9/44 with Jim Fields, Navigator: Goodrich White, Bombardier: Billy Gonser, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Ed Mullendorf, Radio Operator: Dick Goodman, Ball turret gunner: Jim Somers, Waist gunner: Marvin Leach,Tail gunner: George Van Luven (8 Killed in Action); Co-pilot: Lyman Cranston (RTD- picked up by Swedish boat, interned then returned UK); damaged by flak then Me109, and headed for Sweden, crashed in sea just off Trelleborg, Sweden; Missing Air Crew Report 8917 [?8916]. My father was the radio operator on that bomber and actually flew one more mission then needed because he went with a different crew whose radio operator wall ill, his regular crew understandably wanted to keep the whole team together for luck so he flew their last mission and they all survived and where sent home. In my understanding it was the very next crew and mission that took the Stinker down!
