Statement of Eye Witness
I saw ship number 889 drop out of formation before we hit the target. Then JU-88’s that were out at about four o’clock dropped back, and lined up four and five abreast for the kill. They knocked down two of the fighters, and then I saw eight chutes come from the ship.
Sgt. Nicholas V. Salimbene

I was on site of crash about a hour after. With my mother on bike. I was 5. And since present I remember smell of burning dural. We wasn’t allowed take any debries from it. Saw only some body under yellow sheet and far later I have red it was rear gunner Mack. Last year I visited that site again after almost 80 years. Now I live in Brno (CZ)
