This is the wrong serial number and bomb group associated with “The Gremlin’s Hotel”. The B-17G named The Gremlin’s Hotel had the serial number 42-102935 and was flown by my father, Adam L. Gette, 331st squadron, 94th Bomb Group from April through July 1944 from the airfield at Bury St Edmonds. It was subsequently flown by another pilot in the same squadron. I have a photo of my father standing in front of the aircraft with the serial number visible. I also have mission sheets that tie my father’s name to the last 3 digits of this serial number.

This is the wrong serial number and bomb group associated with the B-17G “The Gremlin’s Hotel”. My father flew this aircraft, serial #42-102935 from April through July 1944 with the 331st bomb squadron of the 94th Bomb Group in Bury St Edmunds. I have a photograph of my father standing in front of this aircraft, with the serial number visible on the nose. I also have multiple mission sheets associating the last three digits of the serial number with my father’s name, 1st Lieutenant Adam L. Gette. The history of the 94th Bomb Group, Lingering Contrails of the Big Square A, lists this aircraft on page 364. It erroneously assigns the name to serial number 42-102933, instead of 42-102935, which is just below the name. Another 94th Bomb Group pilot flew this aircraft later in 1944.

Thank you very much for the correct information.
Sometimes sources mix up information from different planes. I have removed the name “The Gremlin’s Hotel” from #42-102933
Cheers

Hello Dr. Gette,
My Grandfather was Lt. Robert D. Atwood SR. who was the Bombardier with pilot COL Frank N Halm. Just wondering if your father crossed paths with my Grandpa?

Looking through information I have on my grandfather, Daryl Reed, I find a note that states he was originally assigned to 40-102933 in the 384th bomb group, 546th squadron known as Queenie that went down 12 Dec 1944 during a Merseburg raid. However, I have until today always only known my grandfather to fly the Gremlin Hotel. Is it possible this plane had multiple names? I do have a picture of my grandfather (pilot) and his crew in front of the Gremlin Hotel nose art, but it does not also include the tail number so I cannot tell if this was a different plane or the same.
