My father Captain John Kelley Hughes (Ret) was the copilot on that plane when it went down. His son went on to be a Marine fighting in Vietnam and his grandson currently a sergeant in the Army. My Dad instilled military pride in us that carry on to this day ??

Grandfather, SSG Blaine V. Baum, was a gunner on this B-17 when it crashed into the North Sea.

My uncle Denver M Canaday was a mid gunner. He was on the old Shelaleigh when it went down in the north sea. Later he was on the ole sheleighe 2 when it was shot down over France. Amazing stories of true heroism.

What was your father’s name? I have a lot of information, but mostly on the Ole Shelaleigh II which was shot down in France. I believe the crew was the same. I know at least one man was injured and 6 evaded capture. they ended up in the French underground, but later after they made it to Spain, they were arrested and put in a Spanish prison. there is actually a book written about it, but it is in French.

Hello, the plane crashed in my municipality in Gers, France. My great-grandfather was the mayor. A book about the story of the plane, its crew, and the rescue was released in the 1990s. I have this book. Maybe I can help you?

I would be a confirmation that this aircraft crashed at the area and not ditched in North Sea.
