With the assignment date of July 20, 1943 a near match to the late Vega B-17F -VE photographed stateside with a Bendix chin turret (UAL CHY domestic crew gunnery trainer) this F-B0 is in actuality more likely to be Horny II.
The Vega more that likely never departed the US. And IARC destination code and Project Number should be reviewed. Note that some sources identify the Vega trainer as Horny II arriving at assignment to 100th BG on or about July 20,1943. The odds of that coincidence essentially matching this a/c; and the photo of the Vega as a trainer are improbable. There is a photo of an earlier Horny ( no II) which would match the timeframe of an early 100th BG arrival. The damaged late Vega F series the 100th BG claims as Horny II shows no noseart and the Group had another late block F-VE that can align with the images (L&R) displaying the damage.
Consequently, recommend adding (II) to this Boring nickname and deleting Horny II from the domestic Vega crew gunnery trainer.
Once the record card is reviewed, further deletions from the Vega trainer history may be appropriate. The 100th BG Association claims would prudently need to be backed by the record card to continue to be perpetuated.
