From interrogation of the crew of 1st Lt. Bruce R. Riley:
At 1515, fighters with rocket guns attacked formation. Two B-17s collided in mid-air after one was hit by a rocket. Planes seemed to explode.
From interrogation of the crew of 1st Lt. James R. Geary:
Starnes ship and 328 in mid-air collision. Tail of 328 broke in pieces. Saw no chutes.
