According to Lino Von Gartzen who specializes in researching crash sites, the official cause of death of Co-Pilot Lt. Cook was drowning. My father never accepted that as the truth. He said that Lt. Cook was a non-swimmer and when shots came from the shore, he did not jump in the water and was shot while still in the raft. I believe the record indicates that he died two days after the ditching. When I spoke with Mr. Von Gartzen, he was living in the Munich area.
