Delivered Cheyenne 13/12/43; Gr Island 27/12/43; Presque Is 10/1/44; Assigned 457BG Glatton 26/1/44; transferred 532BS/381BG [VE-A] Ridgewell 11/3/44; crashed on take off to Frankfurt on first mission 24/3/44, at Bailey Hill Farm, Birdbrook, Ex, two miles from base; with Ken Haynes, Co-pilot: Ralph Bemis, Navigator: Edmund Cusson, Bombardier: Barry Stahlecker, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Ed Sauld, Radio Operator: Harry Loparco, Ball turret gunner: Zeke Herrera, Waist gunner: Ken Ham, Waist gunner: Don McHaffey,Tail gunner: Arthur Plows. (10 Killed in Action). All killed as aircraft exploded with wreckage all over the farm and orchard, while for many years patches of soil would not grow anything due the contamination by aviation fuel and oil.
